Account.* amounting to £382 14s 3d were passed for payment. CORRESPONDENCE. The Rev. H. 0. Hanbv acknowledged the Board's resolution of svmpathy on tiie death <-f his late father, Mr. (/. \V. Hanby (a former member of the Board.) Mr." H. Atmore, M.P.. forwarded a copy of the Local Government Bill. Mr. J. Graham applied for leave of absence during his vioit to England.— Granted. * Mr. R. B. Jackson's acre on Haulashore Island was offered to the Board for £350. —Offer declined, the Board not seeing its way clear to purchase at the present time. Mr. W. Langlands wrote suggesting that future dredging be done by contract. —Received. | The Board was notified that e xtra compensation was now payable for accidents. —Left to the Secretary. 1 The Greymouth Harbour Board wrote stating that it could not at present hire its dredge to the Nelson Board. The Wesport Harbour Board intimated that the dredire Rubi Seddon would not be available for the Nelson Board for three or four months, and particulars of the cost of hirintr would be forwarded later on.—The Chairman and Messrs Lock and Frankiyn remarked upon the j kindle feeling entertained by the West- j port Board towards the Nelson Board. | Mr. H. Baigent. for the Nelson Coal | Prospecting Syndicate, applied for six | months' extension of time to commence | operations on the Board's property at | Stoke, the diamond drill not yet being ; available. HARBOURMASTER'S REPORT. The Harbourmaster (Capt. Collins) reported that during the month 147, vessels arrived and departed from the : port, made up as follows .—35 Union . Company's stemers, 87 smail steamers , and 25 failing vessels, having a total ot , 0431 tons register. Adopted. I DREDGEMASTER'S REPORT. j The Dredgemaster (Mr. J McHarg) j reported that the dredge machinery had been inspected bv the Government-In-spector, and that the tus Gordon bad been surveyed and would probably be , ready for work bv sth March \N ater and "coal punts were now finished, and water tanks were being overhauled On 3rd inst. the dredge broke three of net mooring lines, which were perished and could not stand the to bear en them by the South-east wind. Fortunately the lines broke at flood tide, [ otherwise the dredge would have strand- , ed and be*n damaged. The Koi towed ; the dredce to the wharf, where it would : have to "remain until the lost moorings , were picked up. and the lines renewed. Mr Duncan movd that the Chairman . and Captain Macnab confer with the _ Harbourmaster to decide what dredging work should be gone on with.—Seconded bv Mr Lock and carried. 'Mr Franklvn asked where the spoil ; was to be deposited? That was a most. ! important matter. ' Mr Lock said 'the point raised by Mr Franklvn woulo come ud later on. Mr Duncan thought the matter would have to be left to the Comimttee, but care would have to b e taken that the ; outflow was not interfered with. ' Captain Macnab said that the spoil , should be deposited on the island, but this would mean blocking up the cut and utilising the old entrance. ' The report was adopted. GENERAL. It was resolved to receive a late letter from Mr Joseph Taylor, urging that no further expenditure should be incurred on the present harbour improvements except for maintenance ; but that a canal should be made across the mudflat to Trafalgar-street.—lt was resolved to i consider the letter at the next meeting, j On the motion of the Chairman the ; Westport Harbour Board was thanked , for the information it had given, and for its promise of the Rubi Seddon. The Chairman said that .he would give \ notice for next month that the time of . meeting be altered. The Board rose at noon.
