WAKEFIELD AND DISTRICT. (Prom Our Owen Correspondent.) The postponed concert, in celebration of the first anniversary of the Wakefield Methodist Church, was held in the Oddfellows' Hall on Wednesday evening last, 2tßh inst. Mr. P. Battey presided. There was a good attendance, and a good programme was rendered, many of the items receiving well-merited encores. Mr. Harris and Miss Gilbert journeyd from Nelson to assist, and the it-ems rendered by them were particularly appreciated, as were many of those of the local talent. The following is the programme : —Thj opening piece, an anthem by the choir ; song. Miss Gilbert (encored); piano solo, Miss Pearless; song. Miss Thomas (encored); song, Mr. Edwards; instrumental duet, violin and piano, Misses Currin ; song.
