SWIMMING.

' NELSON LADIES' CLUB, ' A well-attended general meeting of the Nelson. Ladies* Swimming Club was held afc the Girls' College on Monday, when the report and balance-sheet for the past season were presented. The secretary reported that at a general meeting held early in November, the attendance was too small to elect officers for the present season: but it was decided that.in view of.tho deficit in the club's fonds .add the dilapidated state of. the dressing-sheds, the City Council he asked to make the necessary repairs. Owing to the illness of the City Engineer the work was not authorised until December 9th, but it has since been carried out. After the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, tie officers for the present season .were elected as follows —President, Miss Lorimer; Hon. Treasurer, Miss Spear; Hon. Secretary, Miss McEachen; Committee, Mesdames Hounsell, Sutton, Walker, Misses Atkinson, Baigent," Bond, Chisholm, D. Everett, Fell, Hamilton, Kirton, Worley. ATiss Chisholm, who resigned her office as hon. eecretarv and treasurer, was heartily thanked for her services, extending over -a period of five years. Subscriptions were fixed at 2s for t-_i€ season; Is for each additional member in. a family: Is -for visitors to Nelson daring the holidays. A donation ot £1 to enable the club to start the season free of ' debt was received from the Girls' College. The question of holdine sports was discussed ,and deferred, it being _ the general opinion, that until the erection of public baths* nothina- could be done in this direction. The diessing-sheds which have been thoroughly cleaned and disinfected,'are open from early morning until evening; but anyone desiring to use the' rooms still earlier in the morning should" communicate with the secretary or treasurer. It is hoped that the women and girls of Nelson will support the dub, as it provdes them with- almost their only means of indulging in one of the most healthful forms of exercise 2~d recreation.
