THE SOUTH AFRICAN TEAM.
THE FIRST TEST MATCH. ~ WHY TTTF. SOUTH- AFRICANS LOST.. BAD LrUCK AM> INEXPERIENCE. LACK OF GOOD TACTICS. •(Received 9.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, Thursday. The test match figures do not pro■•perly show the difference in the merits of the two teams. The South Africans had all the worst luck with the weather. Facing a big score, they made runs under 'dispirit:ng conditions. Then they were unfortunate in finding Hill and Bardsley -in top form. These made '2O .of the total of 528. The others succumbed to high-class bowling. Another fact is that the South Africans are not Reasoned, test match players, and showed lack of 4 , judgment and playing at the ".fast off" theory. They do not take the gam& eo 'seriously as more experienced cricketers.- The majority try to make runs or get out bowlers, and take •wickets or get'hit. Probably their tactics will improve as the tour proceeds.
