Maitland's balloon, with a female passenger, ascended at the Crystal Palace. When 2000' feet up, thunder and a hailstorm prevented the balloon from reaching an open space, and it was driven on to the housetops of Islington. Then it fell back into a garden. Neither of the. passengers was hurt. SENSATIONAL ESCAPE AT PERTH. TARDY WORKING OF A PARACHUTE. (Rec. 10.40 a.m.) PERTH, Monday. A balloonist named Selhbe, had a sensational experience. His balloon caught fire and escaped before he had obtained a proper hold. He, was carried 500 feetinto the air, but managed to cut away the parachute, and fell to within 80 feet of the ground before it opened. The man-escaped unscathed.
