FEDERAL FOLITICS.

SPEECH BY THE EX-PIU:'..M I fctt. A QUESTION OF OOOD TASTE. THE GOVEBNOR-UENURAL GIVES A WARNING, [Paws Association— CoprniaHi] SYDNEY, Wednesday. Mr Deakin, ex-Federkl Premier, ad--1 dressed a big meeting in the Oddfellows' Hall. The speech was a criticism -of Mr Fisher's policy. He blamed .Mr Fisher for not gauging the feeling of the country better av:d offering a Dreadnought. He reaffirmed his intcn- j tion of forming a Liberal pa'ty, its chief aims being protection, defeuru, and immigration. At the Show luncheon Mr Wade, State Premier, and one or two other speakers referred lo the Dreadnought proposal and the relations between the States and the Commonwealth. Lord Dudley, Governor-General of the Commonwealth, subsequently, in proposing the health of thc President said he wished to point out that lho great thing 011 occasions like these was to avoid, if possible, placing anyone in a difficult position. The Commonwealth Ministers were his advisers, and as he expected his advisers to be loyal to him so he hoped he would always be loyal to them. It mattered not to him who was in power — whether Liberal, Labour or any other section — he would be loyal to them and he expected them td be loyal to him. He hoped that on occasions of this sort political allusions, either by Federal or State Governments, ivould be avoi'led. He wanted to make it clear that, he could only sit at gatherings where this rulo was observed.
