ASCENT OF MOUNT COOK.

BY A NEW ROUTE. [United Press Association.] HOKITIKA, Tuesday. Advice was received to-day of the ascent of Mount Cook by a new route over the rocks on the western face from the Hooker Glacier, hitherto considered impassable. The ascent was made on Friday by Mr Earle, an English Alpine climber, with Guides Graham (2) and Clark. The trip occupied 7i hours. The descent was by the north-western route.
