S.A MODERN CAVE MAN.
A CLIFF HUT. [United Press Association.] DUNEDIN, Thursday A few days ago while two lads were dimbins? the clitfs facing the harbour they came upon a hut, very skiliully built into a small cave about 50 feet tip the face of the cliff. The cave had I. ecu enlarged, and thy roof, of naJlindi kauri" planks, had been carefully made. The front was covered with slieots of ruhbeioid, and the whole | was coated with tar. Inside the cave were found articles of a very varied description .including a well-made . stretcher, a good assortment of enr- J penter's tools, « miner's pick, a hand . minor, a set of shaving apparatus, j i-andles. cartridges, a quantity of fuse, I a couple of Aurora lamps, methylated ."piiits, a few magazines, n quantity of i tea and sugar, a baij containing some ' fmall metal from the (juarry near at , hand. Subsequently a rope was pro- : cured and Constable Rings descended into the cave and was lowered into the hut, the contents of which were removed to the police station. Tho police arc of opinion i; is the work of some crank, and they do not entertain the idea that the place was intended as a store room for plunder. No trace whatever <>f tiie ocupnnt of the hut ha.f been discovered. I
