10 THE EDITOR.
Sir. — I read Mr J. 3. Baxter's lottor, of Inveroargill, published in your yesterday's issue. I can assure von and the many readers of your valuable paper that Mr Baxter, who is trading in that southern city as & grocer, knows full well the great benefit all classes of tradespeople have secured since no-license has been in operation there, and I can vouch for the truthfulnw of all he says. Ho speaks from a commercial point of view, and I would like to add my humble testimony from a human point of' view. 1 1 know younc men there, and women also, -who bavo been rescued from tne snare of the fowler which is always found in the intoxicating cup obtain ■-•! by them at the open bar. The ilc. 5 of them in Invercargill has savl them perhaps from a drunkard 'a death and grave. THOMAS JEFCOATE, An Old Invercargillite. October 29th.
