"THE UNWRITTEN LAW."
JUSTICES' JUDGMENT REVERSED. «. r , (Phess Association.— CoprsiaHT.) (Received 9.50 a.m.) MELBOURNE, Thursday. Mr Justice Hood, reviewing the Justices' decision of the "unwritten law" in dismissing a case of an assault by a father and brother on a musical teacher because of his conduct to a girl, said that the assault by the father of the girl was proved, and no legal defence had boen made. Some pernicious nonsense was talked with reference to what was called the "unwritten law" in America, Ifc had been arguec tha; thi Magistrate had decided tho case on this ground; but it would take very cogent evidence to satisfy him that any British court of justice would ever give effect to such a monstrous proposition. Mr Justice Hood set asido tho Justices' decision, and fined the defendant 40s.
