AMENDMENTS IN" COMMITTEE. (From Our Special Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. In the Legislative Council Dr Findlay. Attorney-General, will move the followintr amendments in the Second Ballot Bill:— Clause 19. add the following subclause (2a) : "Nothing in the last precedine sub-section, shall make it an offence to publish in any newspaper registered under the Printers and Newspapers Registration Act, 1908, any statement of fact if that statement is true in substance and if the publication thereof is for the public benefit." To add the following new clause, 23: "Nothing in this Act shall affect the Drovisions o£ the Licensing Act, 1908, : as to the licensing poll to be taken under that Act, and every such poll 1 shall be taken, on the 6ame day and in ! the same manner ac if this Act had not ' been passed." (The clauses were added in the Council last night.) ; A LONG SITTING.
