THE UNIQUE ENTERTAINERS.
The Unique Entertainers appeared at the Theatre on Saturday evening, before a moderate audience. The programme comprised pictures and vaudeville lines. Owing to an accident to the machine, soma of the pictures were scarcely at their best, but the defect has been remedied, and their should be no hitch at the display in Wakefield to-night. Many of the vaudeville turns were good, and tho performances at times were warmly applauded.
A Tadmor correspondent writes : — The Loyal Palmyra Branch of Oddfellows gave a very enjoyable ball in the Tadmor Hall on Thursday, 10th inst. Despite the inclement weather there was a good attendance, and dancing was kept, up till an early hour. The floor was in good order, and the music (which was supplied by Miss Price, piano, and Mr Price, cornet), was all that could be desired. The hall was tastefully decorated with greenery, flowers, and bunting. Supper was served in a large marquee erected for the purpose, and was catered for by Mr Harris, Wakefield. Mr Edwards kindly gave permission for the train to stop at the Hall for the convenience of the dancers. Songs were contributed during the evening by Messrs J. Murphy, J. Reay and Harris. Messrs A. Clements and J. McGaughey creditably performed the duties of masters of ceremony, and the committee are to be congratulated on the manner in which everything was carried out.
A concert in aid of the funds of the V.M.C.A. will be given on Saturday, 19th, in the Theatre Royal. A good programme has been arranged, some of the leading local amateurs taking part.
A correspondent writes: — Tho Stoke Hall on Thursday night last presented quito a brilliant scene. It was well lighted up, and tastefully decorated with flags, curtains, native shrubs, ferns, etc., together with tho gay dresses of the ladies, somo of whom wore fancy, tho occasion being a plain and fancy dress danco in aid of enlarging the hall. Among the fancy dresses worthy of mention were: — Miss Jelly, Spanish Queen; Miss Matthews, runaway girl; Miss Beach, H.M.S. Koi; Miss E. Ching. Japanese lady; Miss H. Ching, Starlight; Miss Lusty, native bush; Mrs Biggar, K jam; Mrs) Lusty, Amber Tips; Mrs Heath, Advance Stoke; Captain A. Trask, officers' mess uniform ; Mr C. Stewart, footballer; Mr Gibbs, cricketer. Songs were rendered by Messrs Barry, Johnson, and Stewart, the numbers being well sung, and appreciated by all. Mrs O'Donnell provided the mu»ical part of the programme very efficiently. The Stoke people have felt
the need of a much larger building for some time. It is a pity such improvements could not be completed before the next school concert. Still, a start has now been made in_the right direction, and other social gatherings are being talked of to be held shortly. An entertainment is announced to be given in the Druids' Hall on Wednesday evening by Good Templars of H.M's.S. Encounter, assisted by local talent. The admission will be by ticket, 2s and ls each. Judged by the popularity of the previous naval entertainments ther; should be a numerous attendance.
