CITY COUNCIL EL ECTION.
MR T. NEALE RETURNED.
Pollinir in connection with the election of a Councillor to fill tho vacancy in the City Council caused by the re<;i<mation of Cr. Lightband was taken yesterday. There were two candidates for the vacancy-Messrs T. Neale and T K Johnston. The degree of interest in the election may be K au g god,e o d ,, Jrom th« number of votes recorded--^ out of a possible of over 2778. Mr A. R. Smart, Returning Officer, announced the result, of the election at 8.15 p.m. iron, the Municipal Chamber. Details of the voting at the various booths ars as follows : —
At the by-election on April 29th, when Cr. Turner was returned, 159 b valid votes were cast— Turner 730, Stewart 583. Johnston 278. The polling on. that occasion was taken in conjunction with the Mayoral contest.
