TO-MORROW'S FIXTURES.

(By "Bully.") MEN'S CHAMriONSHIP. Richmond v. Nelson B; Botanies. j OTHER MATCHES. j Auckland v. Wanganui; Auckland. i ______ To-morrow the curtain will be ruiij I down on the season's hockey with thi matrh Richmond v. Nelson B, to bi played at the Botanies. I . For the second year in succession tht Motueka Club have won the Shield, and "Bullv" tenders his congratulations to the wearers of the Black and White on their record for the season — nine win: and a loss : with the six-a-side tournament thrown in. The only team t<j boat the winners was the runners-up — the Nelson Club, in the first round by 1 goal to nil ; but the second round saw tho tables turned by 3 to 1. The Nelson A team were a point hihind the winners of thc Shield. The onl^ match in which the Blue and Whites failed to score was in the second round against the Federals. The St. John's team which went across to Wellington report having had a mast enjoyable holiday, especially as both the matches played were won by the Nelson girls. Th« ladies' tournament proceeding at Wellington has so far proved very successful. The Nelson representatives have done verv well , and the local papers describe tho match against Canterbury as "the game of the day," and that against Hawkes Bay as being "tho best and keenest fixture of the whole scries. " Our representatives are to be congratulated on the success achieved. A largely attended meeting of hockey enthusiasts and delegates from tho various ladies' associations was held at Wellington last Monday, for tho purnose of forming a ladies' association. Delegates from all parts of the Dominion were present, and after discussion it was resolved that an association be formed, with headquarters at Wellington. The first annual meeting will be held next April. A letter was received from Otago suggesting a visit from an English ladies' team, and a motion was carried affirming the desirableness of such a visit. In future the annual tournament will be held in the town holding the championship. At Auckland to-morrow the seventh and last challenge match for the Shield will be played against Wanganui, Tho Auckland team will be the same as defeated Wellington. Mr C. H. Izard. M.P., has decided to present a cup for the senior ladies' hockey competition in New Zealand. An interesting discussion took place at a meeting cf lady hockey players last night, savs Tuesday's "Dominion, " when it was decided to form a New Zealand Ladies' Hockey Association. The point at issue was the eternal question, should man or woman rule? Miss Clark, of Auckland, was evidently a supporter of women's rights, for she came out with a proposal that the officers of the association should be ladies. Tho chairman (Dr Izard) : "You can move that the principle be affirmed." The ladv moved accordingly, and her efforts were seconded by Miss Schischka from tha same city. Miss Broad (Otago), held the opposite view, for she said : "Oh ! They don't do it in a business-like way as the men do." (Laughter.) The ' Chairman : "Do you want ladv referees?" (Laughter and . chorus of "No. no.") The Chairman: "What about the Court of Appeal! ; Ladies there, too?" The mover (plain- ': tivelvl : "I don't know what the Court of Appeal is." (Laughter.) The doctor kindlv enlightened hor. The proposal was reiected almost unanimously. Some assertions having reference to alleged rowdy behaviour on tho part of a number of lady hockey players which apnearod in a contemporary were strongly objected to at a meeting held last night in connection with the formation, of a New Zealand Ladies' Hockey Association (says Tuesday's "Dominion"). The chairman (Dr A. W. Izard) regretted having to refer to the matter: it wo aid be more dignified to ignore such baseles and absolutely false charges, but they might be copied by papers in other places, and the public might aet a wrong idea of ladies hockey. He wa. sorry that some portion of the press were lacking in chivalry. Tho excellent behaviour of tho girls had been remarked upon by a number of people who went over to Day's Bay, including some of our leading citizens. The advertisement would be withdrawn from the paper in question, and anybody who wanted to find out what the fixtures were must see them in the "Dominion." (Hear, hear.) Nelson B team/ Noble, Lyons, I.'. Tavlor. Allan. Hurst Seldon. Bird, Weblev, Coombe, Topliss, Dec, Bell.
