THE HEAT WAVE IN THE UNITED STATES.
PROSTRATION _AND DEATH. PHILADELPHIA HOSPITALS FULL NEW YORK, Friday. The heat wave had furious effect in Philadelphia. Of the Benevolent Society's procession of 1,000,000, over 3000 persons were prostrated by heat. Of these 25 died, and 50 are not expected to recover. The hospitals are full. Many horses have- been killed. ! RIFLE SHOOTING AT BISLEY. A NEW SOUTH WALES WIN. LONDON, Friday. At the Bisley Rifle Meeting, Ardill, 1 New South Wales, won the first prize of £30 in the Barlow competition, with a score of 102. LONDON, Saturday. At Bisley the second stage of the King's Prize has concluded. Private Buckley, of Manchester, won the silver medal with a score of 199. Eight Australians have qualified for the third stage.
