FURTHER HEAVY RAIN.

FLOOD AT RICHMOND

Early this morning another severe storm passed over the district, and further heavy rain fell. In the city people were awakened by thunder and teeming rain. In the Waimeas the force of the storm appears to have been felt more than in the town. At Richmond there was a big flood, the main road from about the White Hart Hotel to May's corner being a sheet of water. The railway line and yard were also completely submerged, and the house of the stationmaster (Mr Henderson) had some inches of water in it. At Brightwater the Wairoa river was bank high and overflowing in parts, and some of tho settlers' properties were flooded. The coach from Motueka was unable to cross the Appleby Bridge, and the Brightwater route had to be taken. It is also stated that in the Moutere district there have been floods and some damage done.

From no station in the colony is really fine weather reported to-day. In some instances the conditions are "cloudy," but in many rain is reported., Gisborne and Westport were the hottest places in the colony at 9 o'clock this morning, the thermometer standing at 70 in each place. In the south of the Island the temperature was generally low, all the stations reporting being in the 50' s. The Nelson record was 63.
