CITY IMPROVEMENTS.
[ESSRS PITT AND MOORE'S NEW PREMISES. Messrs Pitt and Moore, the wellnoun firm of solicitors, have removed ito the commodious new premises just tected alongside the offices in Trafal-ar-street used by them for many years, 'he new building presents a fine' apearance from the street, having a bold ront with pleasing cement ornamentaions. The building is a two-storied ne, with a width of 34ft and a depth if 40ft, the height to the eaves on the op floor being 23ft. Over the main enrance is a bold, pediment supported by wo ornamental cement-faced trusses, ind surmounted by a medallion cornice if a style uncommon in Nelson. There s also a pediment over the top story in the centre of which has been placed rhe inscription "Established 1864." Six rrircular-headed windows face the street, and present a fine appearance. The lower floor windows are of embossed glass, with floral designs, the name of the firm being worked into the glass. The vestibule doors also arc of embossed glass, with floral designs. Insid« the building are the public office, the clerks' room, and a room each for' Messrs Edward and Philip Moore. One of Chubbs' fire and burglar-proof safes has been placed in position. Upstairs there are four rooms, all of whicr. are suitable for offices. An inch watei service has been installed throughoul the building, so that in case of fire i good supply of water will be readilj available. . J The building, which is of brick anc plastered throughout, was built by Rob ertson Bros., Ltd., the .plumbing wa; done by the Nelson Tinware Co., anc Messrs Savage and Sons were entrust ed with the painting, etc. The worl was carried, out under the supervision ol Mr H. M. Roberts.
