: CANTERBURY LIVE STOCK MARKET. [United Tress Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, Wednes. At the Addington live stock market to-day there was a large entry of stock, and a numerous attendance of . buyers. Store sheep were not so , brisk of sale, and prices were hardly •so firm for rough sorts. Most of the i fat lambs only brought forward store ! prices. Fat sheep sold up to late rates, till towards the end of the sale, when old ewes were easier. Beef sold at about late rates, and pigs of all classes were easier. There was a •poor sale for store cattle, but good I dairy cows were in demand. There was a large mixed yarding of store sheep, and there was a large 'number of buyers present. ,The bidI ding was rather slow, but any good [lines sold up to late rates v while rough [sorts were somewhat neglected. Lambs rwere not selling quite jso , well as during the last week or two. I The entry of fat lambs was larger than for reveral weeks, and there was a fair proportion of prime lots. The graziers were the principal buyer? . and most of the sales were made at f much below freezer's values. Prime . lambs made 14s to 17s 6d ; medium 12s , to 14s; and lighter 9s to lls 6dJ ' i There was a fairly large mixed . yarding of fat sheep, including a fair i proportion of wethers. There was 1 practically no change in values until towards _ the end of the sale, when butchers' requirements were pretty well satisfied. The range of prices was: Prime wethers 19s 7d to 225; others lfip Id to 18s 3d; prime ewes, 15s to 19s 6d; medium 12s 6d to 14s 6d ; aged 9s to 12s. The entry of fat cattle totalled 242, a large proportion being more or less rough sorts. A few extra prime lots sold at an advance, but ' ordinary beef made about late rates. Steers brought £5 17s 6d to £9; heifers £5 2s 6d to £6 ss; cows £4 7s 6d to £7 7s 6d; equal to 22s 6d for a few extra prime, for others 22s to 23s 6d ; medium 19s to 21s per 1001 b. Veal calves made 4s! to £2 ss, according to si2e and quality. Only a few odd lots of store cattle were yarded, and the sales effected did not form quotations. Good dairy cows were in demand, •\nd sold up to £8 10s. There was a very large entry of ■rigs, baconers being hardly 'so firm, /■nd porkers and stores much easier. Baconers made 40s to 45s for light \nd 47s to 53s for heavy — equal to Jd to 4£d per IB; porkers 30s to 355, — equal to 4^d to 4fd per lb; large \nd forward stores 20s to 355 ; medium 12s to 18s ; and weaners 5s 6d to lls.
