The weather was fine and the attendance very fail-, though not bo good as might ha ve been, expected in view of the improvement of ttie weather on that of the past two years. The course was in eij ellent order., and the sport on the whole was of first-class order, the back hurdle race, particulars of which were given in yesterday's issue, being, of course, an exception. In some of the other e rents there were good finishes, notably in tbe last race, in which Heritas received the narrow advantage of a short bead in ivhat was at first thought by the spectators to be a dead heat. The time made by Abydos. in the Cup race (2,13) was a record for this event, it (being one seoond faster Than Billstone's time in 1898, and l>r seconds quicker than last year's Iperformanceof Ruamahuoga and Volley, who ran a dead heat. For the first time, this year the Club adopted tbe sjstem of paying oat on the first and Becond horses, where there are not lesa thsn five starters, This innovation appeared to be popular enough, but of oourse it involved dispensing with the 10s tickets, which are looked upon as a great con venience by so many. Speculation was fairly brisk, and the total snm passed through tbe machines by Mr F. N. Jones wbs .£2603, as against £1761 and for the first days of 1901 and 1900 respectively, on both of which oc ssions, it will be remembered, the weather was ehq.very.

With the exception of the unfortunate accident to the Blenheim hofee Hurleblast, referred to in yesterday's issue (and which happened outside of the Coarse), the day passed off without any mishap. The crowd were very well behaved, ant Sergt Maokay and his staff of constables had very little to do in carryingr out their duties. The Stoke Industrial School Band supplied music during day, Mrs Schroeder, who had charge ftfiaa Qfaud Stand luncheon booth, was j comfijinienfed ty fche stewards on tbe ' lunch" supplied in the '.Com mi (;( ce room. j The following are the results of the two races run aftep tpe went to press yesier- ' day— *
