THE JANET WALDORF DRAMATIC CO.
" TWELFTH NIGHT." When Shakepeare wrote his comedy " Twelfth Night " he mast have been in merry mood. Abounding as it does with wit, h amour, and mirth, the comedy gives full scope fora csmpany lo display its full talent in this direction, and as staged by the Janet Waldorf Comp .ny in their farewell season at the Ihe >tre last evening btfjre a crowded audience it was decidedly successful. Ibere are many points to bring ont, aud the whole performance througttoufc was characterised by a thorough familiarity with the several parts. Mrs Janet Waldorf's role as " Viola." though not calling for finch powerful and emotional acting as most; of her characters, gave, however, another proof of what ehe s capable of, and in her disguiso as a boy she was thoroughly at at home. The same remarks might slso apply to Mr Norval Macgregor as " Maivolio/' who never theless, c/ith a difficult part to sustain, acquitted himself most creditably. Mr Vivian Edwards (Orsino, Duke of Hlyria) give a forcible and natural rendering, 'the comedy provided by the burly " Sir Toby Belch " (Mr Fred Patey) and tbe simpleton. "Sir Andrew Aguechuk >% (Mr Laurance Haoray) assisted ia a minor . degree by " Fabian " (Mr Paul Scardon) "Mafia " (Miss Florence Bartlett), and Mr Harry Douglas (" Feste," a clovrn) kept the audience in a c mtinuouß ripple of laughter, whenever they sppearad. The pavt of " Sebastian " (Mr "William Fitchett) and all the minor characters, by backing up the principals well, added greatly to the success and enjoyment of the piece. Tbe season will close this evening when Mis? Waldorf will bid farewell to Nelson and New Zealand. " The Jewess" (the fine oIJ play formerly known as " Leah the Forsaken ") will be staged.
