THE GARRISON BAND'S CONCERT.
A. large and appreciative audience filled the Theatre last evening on the occasion of the conceit organised by the Nelson Garrison Band. The rain fortunately did not start ear ly"eno ugh to affect the attendance, and thus in all respects the entertainment fully justified anticipations. The soloists were all very successful in their selections, encores being the rule. Miss' Reeves sang " Through Sunny Spain " and "Love the Pedlar," repeating the last verse of the latter in response to a recall. " The Old and the Young Marie "by Mrs Walker was also redemanded, and the last verse was again given. Mr A. C. Maginnity sang " The Riderless Steed," and as an encore gave " The Village Blacksmith." An equally successful item was Miss M. Driscoirs " Lady of the Lea," which was followed by " The Slumber Sea " as an encore number. Miss Hunt gave great pleasure by her rendering of " La Serenata " (with violin obligato by Herr Lemmer) and " O IPray for me," the latter being m response to the re-call. Miss Nelson sung " Kcho," and on being asked to reappear chose "If all the Stars were Mine/ Mr E. tfichards made a favourable impression with the song " Tor all Etenity," and repeated the last verse on being recalled. The members of the Band, who also contributed several items to the programme, met with a very gratifying reception. Bandsman's L. Jacobs euphonium solo, " Wiederkehr " (Hartmann), and Bandmaster Trussell'e cornet solo " Tancredi " (Kossini) were both enjoyable items, and each elicited an encore. The instrumental quartette, "In the Lonely Vale of Streams," was well executed by Bandsmen Scott, "Web ley, Currin, and Jacobs. The Band itself appeared in three numbers., viz., a selection (the overture) from " II Trovatore," " Bellini's Works," and " Scotland's Pride," the last-named being an arrangement of Scottish airs by Bandmaster Trussell, One of the soloists was accompanied by Bandsman Scott, but in all other instances Mr Naylor efficiently acted in that oapacity. Before the audience dispersed with the singing of " God Save the King," Bandmaster Trussell thanked all present for their patronage and also tendered the acknowledgment of the Band to the performers for their valuable contributions to the highly successful programme
