MINING.
(From a Correspondent.) [ByTelegraph.J LYELL, October 21. ' . The -A'Pine mine manager reports that tne driving of No. 9 level nerth has been confirmed. The reef i«, however, not quite so wide as when .-a. reported, it being at present be- ween five and six feet in width. The stone Btill remains of fair quality in the stopes, A', the back of this level tbe reef is from four to ten feet wide, and there is no change in the quality of rhe stone At the back of No. 10 main south level stoning has been steadily carried on in the reef varying in width from four to 14 feet and the slight improvement in the quality of the stone bas been maintained. During the week the sinkiag of the winze in the north end of the No. 10 level has been continued with two men. The reef is still widening out, and a slab of solid stone is making m tbe banging wall ; the reef is of payable quality. The contractors for driving the No. 11 level seuth have completed their second contraot, and the level is now being driven ahead by four men. A welldefined track, consisting of broken slate, BOltpug, and quartz boulders, about six leet in width, is being carried along. Daring the week, 225 tons of stone have been sent to the battsry ; the scrapings of ths top plates yielded 147 ozs amalgam from 230 tons stone.
