BOXING DAY.

1 hough tbe clouds had been threatening during the week, and tha prevalence of a [ N.E. wind seemed to foretell a wet holiday, the weather on Boxing Day was all that could be desired— bright and not too warm. Very large numbeis of people left the city on picnics and excursions, but the two great fixtures— the Champion Tennis matches and the Regatta— were well attended. The Railway traffic was heavy, but the arrangements made by the local authorities seem to have given satisfaction, as no complaints have been made. Though there were no excursion rates on the steamers between Wellington and Nelson, some hundreds of visitors came here for the holiday, and ie is said that all the hotels and boarding houses wero well filled.
