ST. JOHN'S.
Though thore wero no floral decorations at St. John's Church, some excellent music was given at the recital on Christmas night Mr Maurice 0. Nevanas played sevoral very fine organ solos, including "The Heavens are Telling" (Haydn), "Andante" (Guihnant), Grand March (Merkel), and Mendelssohn's " Song without Words." A Lullaby and Intermezzo of his own composition were tastefully played by Mr Nevanas. Miss Kidson played a violin solo, Adagio and Hondo from Beethoven's No. 5 Sonata, Misa A. Kidson sang ■' The Bird's Noel," and Miss Larking " Thou didst not leave his soul in Hell " (Handel). The choir sang Trimnell's fine anthem "Ye shall go out with joy," Miss McEachon taking the solo. Appropriate sermons wero preached at St. John's yestorday morning and evening by the Rev S. F. Prior, who spoko of the great love of God as demonstrated by his " unspeakable gift "—Christ. In the evening the choir sang the anthem " It came upon the midnight clear," in which the soprano solo was very sweetly sung by Miss Larkins. After the last grand old hymn, "When I survey the wondrous cross," and before the Benediction was pronounced, Mr Nevanas played as an organ solo "The Hallelujah Chorus," the congregation remaining standing. Tlio impressive discourse and music wore greatly appreciated.
