A. Rickett's Violet (2miri) .. .. l A. Grossi's Ivy (scr), ;'.. .. _ E. Well's Blue Belt (3mins) .. ..3 Three other boats started. The wind was suitable for tho Violet, which came in 60<ees ahead of the Ivy, and 1 mm 39secs before the Blue Bell. Yacht Handicap— 5 miles. Ist' prize, .£l2; '2nd, £5. f •. V. Gully's Madge (11 mins) .. 1 J. Mallamo's Cambria (llmins) .. 2 B Beeves' Marjorie (11 mm?) .. 3 The Venetia, Hiawatha, latona, Zealandia, Secret, and Jessie Logan also started. The [latter was too heavily handicapped, as she had to concede from 13nuns. to 9mins. to the others. The Cambria had the lead for some time, but on passing tha wharf going np for the last time she was passed by the Madge, which came in winner by 32secs. The win was a, popular one, and the Madge's crew were loudly cheered as she passed the post Coasters' Race-5 miles. Ist prize. £10 ; 2nd, £5. * ' J .B. Winter's Maid of Italy . . 1 J. Johnson's Planet \ _\ The Turanga and Anatuero also started. Ihe race was sailed inside the harbour, and the four cutters were started on the wind from alongside the Railway Wharf, ihe Planet went ahead at the start, and was the first to round the upper buoy, closely followed by tho Maid of Italy and Turanga, La running down the Maid kept out of the tide, and passed the Planet. The wind afterwards died away almost to a calm, and it was with Borne difficulty that the vessels (could beat no against the ebb tide, and the raoe extended over four hours. • The Maid ol Italy kept !u ™ ' Bnd oamß in a lon 8 way ahead of the Planet, which was second. Tha others did not complete the course. First Class sailing Handicap— 6 miles. Ist prize, _8; 2nd, £3. Mr A. Rickett's Violet (2 mins) 1 Mr E. Wells' Bine Bell (3 mins) '..'. 2 Mr A. Grossi's Ivy(Bor) ... 3 Seven boats started, and 'the winnner proved to be the Violet, which was too good for the others, and 9he came in 10 minutes ahead of the Blue Bel), the second boat. Maiden Foub-Oar Outriggers— 1 mile. Ist prize, £6 ; 2nd, £2. Wellington Rowing Club 1 Star Boating Club '" __ Nelson Rowing Club ... ". '" 3 Nelson went ahead at the""starfc!" bat did not take advantage of the ebb tide, and consequently the Wellington Clnb passed them, and came in four lengths ahead. Nelson ceased rowing when the gun fired for the first boat, and the Stars, thus secured seoond place. Senior Four-Oar Outrigger Race— 2 miles. Ist prize, i 10 ; 2nd, £4. '" 3 The boats kept well together until nearlnjr the wharf, when tbe Stars shot ahead? and came in a bare three lengths ahead of the Wellington Club boat. Junior Four-oar Outrigger Race— li miles. Ist prize, £7; 2nd, £2. Star Boating Club j Nelson Rowing Club .. ... " _* Therewere the only two boats in'this race. The Stars were leading by half a length when the boats were passing the wharf. Nelson hero put on a spurt and got ahead, but were unable to keep np the pace, and the Stars again passed them, eventually winning by a length. Senior Four-Oar Outrigger Race— 2 miles. Ist prize, £15 j 2nd, £5. Star Boating Club . . 1 Wellington Rowing Club '.', .'2 Nelßon Rowing Club . . "3 Shortly after the start the S'ars forged ahead, the other two boats being pretty close together until reaching the wharf when Nelson dropped behind. The Stars' gradually increased their lead and came in three lengths ahead of Wellington, Nelson being about two lengthß behind the latter. Bmrs Boat Race— 2 Miles. Ist prize. S3 Kennedy .. 1 Charles Edward . . . . .'.' \\ <j Only boats from these steamers started. After a close raoe the former oame in about two lengths ahead of the latter.
