At a special general meeting of the Permanent Building Society last evening, the Chairman of Directors (Mr Finney) read a requisition from the shareholders that the rate of interest bs reduced. He moved that the interest charged upon all loans be 5 per cent. Mr T. Brough seconded the motion, saying that borrowers wero obtaining money privately at low rates of interest, and beooming shareholders so that they could more easily repay the principal, and in this way the Sooiety was being made a tool 01.
