Sly Grog Selling at Tapanui.

A Remarkable Perjury Case.

Dunedin, December 8.

The Supreme Court was occupied today with a charge of perjury against a young man'named Edward Sheath. The . case arises ont of the recent Biy grog prosecution at, Tapanui. According to tho constable, Sheath gavo him certain information and signed the statement in Court, but Sheath denied having signed the statement. To-day witnesses for the 'defence gave evidence that Sheath was with them on the night and about the time he was. supposed to "be with the police constable. Officers from five banks, while not prepared to swear that the'signature to the statement was not written by the same person as an admitted signature of Sheath's produced, all deolared they would not pay out on the signature on the statement. The case is not concluded.
