IMPROVEMENTS IN TRAFALGAR PARK.
At the meeting of the City Council last night a letter was read from Mr Toplias, Secretary to the Nelson Cricket Association, asking the Council to provide soil to fill up inequalities on the northern side of Trafalgar Park, the Association being willing to find tho labour and plant grass seed. Cr Baipent a aid the Park fund was in credit, and he would like to see some of the money spent in useful improvements. He moved that £10 worth of soil be supplied. Cr J. A. Harley said that the Assooiawould bo content with £2 worth of soil. ' The Mayor and Citj Survoyor sai 1 it would require about £5 worth of soil 35 loads. Cr J. A. Harley said the Trafalgar Park might be in funds now, but a great deal of improvements, repairs, etc, were needed, and would absorb it. Cr Piper said the fund was a trust, and a surplus had to be devoted to oharitable purposes. Cr Askew said that many hollow places in the Park neoded filling in, and if the Counoil improved the ground more revenue would be earned from it. Or Look eaid the cricket clubs spent a dual of money on the Park, and should be encouraged. He thought £5 should be spent in supplying soil. It was resolved, on the motion of Cr Akersten, seconded by Cr Baigent, that £5 be spent in mould for Trafalgar Park. The question of painting the gates and fences was referred to the Workg Committee. The Miiyoi- said Trafalgar Park was looking splendid just now.
