Compassionate Allowances.
Wellington, This Day. Mr Stevens, M.H.K., Messrs Ivess, and Gardner, as a deputation, waited on the Premier, asking for a compassionate allowance to the Quinlivan families, the fathers of whom were JciJJeJ by a slip on the railway works near Ohingaiti. Mr Seddon said that these people had been warned that they were not safe, and the department was in no way legally responsible. He would, hower, recommend a graut to a little girl of £50 per annum till she should be twenty-one, J. Quinlivan £200, and C. Quinlivan £LOO.
