The Ohristmas escort from the Cromwell district was the largest from there for ten years, notwithstanding that a number of miners have not yet washed up. The oause of death was found to be' brain disease, hastened by tbe injury, The jury expressed regret that as it was deemed advisable to put him in a padded cell the floor had not been protected too. January 11. Captain Thomas, of Thomas and Co., auctioneers, died this morning. He was 75 years of age, and had been in business here 22 years. He was formerly in the service of the Panama S.N.
