completion of the line from Brunnerton to Reef ton, which, together with the construe- j tion of the other portions mentioned, is expected to occupy two years and a half. The prospectus goea on to state that the Midland Railway is the only authorised line connected the East and West Coasts of the Southern Island, and while affording through communication between the city of Christchurch and the ports of Greymouth and Nelson, will unite agricultural and pastoral districts with others abounding in timber, as well as gold, coal, and other minerals.
We have received by an English mail which arrived to-day, a copy of the prospectus of the N.Z. Midland Railway Company announcing the issue of £745,000 five per cent debentures at the price of £92 10s per £100 debenture, which ia made (1) to extend and equip the line to Reef ton about 40 miles, (2) to make and equip about 12 miles of line into the timber distriot near Brunnerton, and (3) to construct, in aocordance with the contract, at Springfield and Belgrove the extension (about six miles at each place) of Government railways now in operation at these points, in all about 61 miles of railway ; also to complete the surveys for tho line. No further issue is to be made pending the
