AUCKLAND RACES.

Auckland, Friday. Everything conspires this afternoon to render the races a complete success. The turf is in capital condition, the weather agreeable, and the attendance very large, in fact the largest of the entire meeting. Several thousand people are upon the course, whilo both stands are thronged, and the saddling paddock is full of eager metallicians and enterprising speculators. The attendance of people cannot be much short of 5000. Newmarket Handicap — Mitrailleuse, 1 ; Wood Nymph, 2; Ugly Buck, 3. Sou'wester, Irishwoman, Thc Painter. Witiora. After considerable coquetting at the post, in which Ugly Buck nnd Mitrailleuse took the greatest part, the field were despatched to a fair start, Ugly Buck htiving a slight advantage. At the four furlong po:;fc Mitrailleuse had taken up the running with Wood Nymph and Witiora in close pursuit, and Administrator and Sou'wester last. On entering the straight Mitrailleuse still led the pace with Ugly Buck coming up hand over hand upon the second and third horses ; at; the entrance to the straight Wood Nymph displaced the leader, but was quickly supplanted again by Mitrailleuse, which won e-isily. Ugly Buck was a length and a half* behind Wood Nymph. Totalisator dividend, £2 16s. (Continued on Third PageA)
