Resolved, That tbe question of tbe expenditure to be incurred iu erecting the necessary buildings be referred to the Finance Committee, and that the Secretary in the meantime apply to the Commissioner of Crown Lands for the reservation of a^ suitable, site for school buildings. A letter was read from the Inspector, who is absent on the West Coast, containing certain suggestions as to the fixtures and fittings in the new Girls' school, St. Vincentstreet, and iu the 3rd Division of the Hardystreet school, also suggestions as to the appointment of assistant teachers in .tlie new Girls' school. .... Resolved, That with respect to St. Vincent street school tho Inspector's proposal be adopted, but that in regard to the Hardystreet school the matter of fittings be left in the hands of the Town Committee, acting with the recommendation of the Inspector, and that with respect to the appointment of assistant teachers for St. Vincent-street school, the opinion of the Town Committee be invited thereon. A letter was read from the Lower Wakefield School Committee, requesting that a verandah might be added to the master's house, and a sum voted to meet the expenditure.. Resolved, That the Finance Committee obtain the necessary details 'and supply an estimate. A letter was read from the .Secretary. of the Education Department requesting?/ to be informed whether the Board was willing to undertake the distribution of-' jthe portion of the sum voted by Parliament for Public Libraries Accruing to the Nelson District; Resolved, that the Secretary reply to the above letter in the affirmative. *-, A letter was received from the Honorary Secretary of the Town Committee conveying the copy of a resolution of the Committee, expressing their desire as to the character of tbe education to be given in the new Girls' school in St. Vincent-street. The Secretary was instructed to reply that the Board had already come to conclusions io accordance with the wishes of the Committee. A letter was read from the Chairman of the Motueka Committee enclosing the copy of a resolution re the late appointment of an assistant teacher, and requesting that in future the Committee be consulted. The Secretary was instructed to inform the Chairman that the appointment. wi»3 only temporary., A memorandum on the- overcrowded state of the Stoke, school was handed in by Mr Rout, who requested on : behalf of the Stoke Comriiittce that ah addition for the accommodation of fifty children should immediately be made to the present building; Resolved, That the memorandum be referred to the Works and Finance Committee, who would be meeting on an early date. Resolved, That the next meeting of the Board be held anJTriday, the 27th instant. Cheques were signed amounting to £1240 4d.
