Dunedin, Friday, 351 p.m. Sir John Ricbardson died at 3 o'clock this afternoon at the Imperial Hotel.
At a meeting of the Local Committee of the New Zealand Rifle Association held yesterday, it was announced that Dr Boor, one of the committee, had resigned in order that all the corps should be represented in the committee a3 far as possible. Captain Malcolm of the Stoke Rifles waa unanimously elected in Dr Boor's place. . • A genebal meeting of the Licensed Vic tuallers wa3 held at the Panama Hotel last night, when it was resolved to call an emergency meeting for Monday evening next' f or tbe purpose of instituting, and drawing up. a programme for, annual sports, to be held either on Boxing Day or New Year's Day. We have been requested to publish tbe following statement • of the subscriptions received for Mr James Lucre and his family, wbo lost their all in the fire which destroyed the Hardy-street stables:— Collected by Mr G. A. special, meeting, of. the Star Cricket Club will be held, at the Golden . Fleece Hotel this evening, when, all the members are requested to* attend. The Charles Edward, which is bringing up the out wan! San' Francisco mail from -the'; West Coast, having been detained by tne'bad weather, and unfavorable state of the bars, the Postoffice authorities here telegraphed to Wellington asking for the detention of the Wellington in this port until the Charles Edward's arrival. This has been acceded to, and the Wellington will not therefore sail for the North until 5 "p.m. to-morrow. A meeting of the shareholders in the Roding River Copper Mining Compauy was held last night, when about twenty were present. Ten names were proposed for the Committee of Management, and the following six were elected by ballot :— Messrs Moutray, Waters, Crewdson, T. Harley, J. Smith, and W. Haddow. Mr J. Harley was appointed as tbe promoters' representative' on the Committee A Committee meeting was at once held, and Mr Haddow was appointed Secretary. The members of the Committee intend visiting the mine early next week for the purpose of ascertaining the best means of proceeding with the prospecting. The following are some of the changes to be made in the Constabulary force.- — Inspector Kiely is to be removed to Hokitika early in January to relieve Inspector James who proceeds to Wellington in the place of Superintendent Atcheson, who win succeed Inspector Kiely here. Inspector Emerson, of Blenheim, is to be removed to Tauranga. Fbank Gallachin, a setiman on board "the Edwin Fox, was this morniug charged before R. Pollock and H..C." Daniell, Esqs., J.J.P., with continued disobedience to lawful orders. Ordered to be imprisoned for one month, or if the ship should sail in the meantime to be put on board. ' ' The popularity of Madame Cora and Val Vose's entertainment was again testified to by the large audience which assembled at the Theatre Royal last night. Several new tricks were introduced, Val Vose was as amusing, and the arial suspension as attractive as ever, and all came away well satisfied with thejr evening's enterfqimnent, especially
those who were ;fortunate enough to secur^ the valuable gifts which were so lavishly distributed. To-night there will be another; performance, an.d plenty more presents, theii two principal ones consisting of a silver.! plated tea and coffee 'service and a lady^s' gold watch. To-morrow afternoon there will be a daylight performance for children, each of whom will receive a gift. On Monday a special train will be laid on, thus affording residents in the country an opportunity of being present at the last performance *of the Company in Nelsoii.
