MATTERS FOR CONSIDERATION.
I was requested by the Synod of 1874 to bring hefore you 8 -f°" ov/in £ Matters for your consideration:— 1. the alteration of Formularies Bill which has been submitted, as directed, to the several Diocesan Synods. 2. Some proposed amendments of Statute No. 5, for the appointment of Pastors which have been suggested .; hy the Diocesan Synods.
3. A notice of motion by the Dean of Christchurch, inserted on pages 17 and 18 of the report of 1874. I also lay before the Synod: — 1. The recommendation by the members of the Mission of the Rev. John Richardson Selwyn, M.A., to the office of Bishop of the Melanesian Mission. 2. The report of the Examiners of the Board of Theological Studies. 3. The reply of the Metropolitan Bishop of Sydney to my communication on the subject of the Episcopal superintendence of the Fiji Group. 4. Copy of a letter from the Archbishop of Canterbury, together with a report of a Committee appointed at a meeting of the English Bishops at Lambeth, and Bishop Jenner's claims to the See of Dunedin. 5. Copy of a letter of his Grace in reference to the proposed conference at Lambeth in 1878. 6. A resolution relating to the New Zealand Hymnal by the Diocesan Synod of Auckland. 7. A resolution by the Synod of Christchurch defining the term " communicant." 8. A resolution from the same Synod suggesting certain alterations in Statute IV. 9. Resolutions from the same requesting consideration of Report of Select Committee on Statutes Nos. IX. and K. I must also remind the Syuod that Statute No. XVI. will cease to be iv force at the end of thie session. It will be seen from this list that there are questions of very grave importance for our consideration.
