BISHOPRIC ENDOWMENT.
• •-iftpW.-tejft the remembrance of some now present that a resolution was 'passed at. the last Synod in reference to the ina^eq^cy of the endowment of this and other Sees of this Province, and I. was requested, with the aid of several residents in my Dioqese, to devise, and put into operation a plan for raising by benefactions in land.or money; funds for necessary Church purposes, in particular as the primary object for the augmentation bf episcopal endowments. I lay upon the table a circular %, purpose which was. forwarded to the representatives of the several Dioceses. The plan proposed in it was in accordance with the resolution of the Synod, which contemplated a general fund for the Church of this Province, but it has met with no success. Two members, however; of the late Synod, who had especially interested themselves in (he resolution, the Hon. C.J. Pharazyn, and H. SeweVEsq., contributed each £500, the former appropriating his donation to the augmentation of the endowment of the Bishopric of Wellington, the latter m part to the same object, and iri part as an endowment of a Cure in the suburbs of Christchurch. Contributions, I helieve, maid of those respective Bishopric endowments have been made also iri other Dioceses, and some report of them will probably be laid before you. There does not appear to have been any Unwillingness in the members of our own communion to assist in this or in any other Church object, but there is evidently a preference for those objects in which they are locally interested,- rather than for those of a more general character.
