The Nelson Evening Mail. THURSDAY, JANUARY 21, 1875.

So many false hopes have been raised , and so much disappointment occasioned by the various schemes that have at one time and another been proposed for the construction of a " Nelson and West Coast Railway," that we feel some little hesitation in agnin approaching the subject. Once more, however, we have to report, and it is with sincere pleasure that we do so, that the matter has been placed before a number of English capitalists, and by them entertained -with considerable favor. Mr Handyside is the principal mover in the pff air, and is receiving active assistance from Mr John Tinline, who is now in London. Papers containing the whole details of the scheme and a copy of an Act, which it will be necessary for the General Assembly to pass, have been sent out to a gentleman in Nelson who takes a deep interest in this particular matter, and by him have been laid before the Superintendent. Dr FeatherBton, the Agent-General for the colony in London, has expressed his warm approval of the proposals, and the promoters were, at the time of the departure of the last Suez mail, anxiously looking for the arrival of Mr Yogel to ascertain his views, and should he be prepared to "support it, a cablegram, which may probably arrive by the Alhambra now hourly expected on the Coast, will be forwarded to the gentleman above alluded to in Nelson. We are not now at liberty to furnish any more particulars, but we may say that the terms proposed on behalf of tbe new* Company are far more liberal than any that have yet been offered or spoken of, and are likely to meet with the full approval of the people of Nelson. The London letters containing tho information, we may add, are written in a meat hopeful strain, and hold out every prospect of success. We hope shortly to be able to give further details.
