CORRESPONDENCE.

To the Editor op the Nelson Fvening Mail.

Sir— ln the note you have appended to my letter which appeared on Saturday last, in your col urns, I cannot imagine how you can charge me with " attempting to shift on to your shoulders the responsibility of thfi paragraphs in question," for, at the very beginning 'of my letter I stated that " I could not understand how you could quote such calumnies from that class of newspapers." I did not ther fore accuse you of inventing. But when one quotes extracts without any remark, I conceive that lie makes them his own, and tykes the responsibility of them; consequently I was right to say " your ridiculous tale" and "what you are pleased to call a filthy den "

My object in noticing your extract was for the purpose of calling the atten* ion of your readers to the repeated inaccuracy of Europoan papers from whicn you take your extraots; indeed, ifi w*e-e to t;ike notice of every one of them I should have to crave tt.o much of your valuable space. For instance, when, in your same issue, you -speak of there being 6 bishops, 3 prelates, and 210 priests, who hive perished or have been executed in Polind, in consequence of Jate insurrection, supposing this to be true, great praise tvouH be due to them, as the insurrection became necessary on account of jtbe violation ofthe treaty Of 1815 by Russia, ahd no ofie would [deny^ tbat their cunseL was a j'u-st and holy onel " ' But I mustremark thalr the 6 bishops, 3 prelates, anHnjother priests are imprisoned or exiled only have refured to acknowledge the.riynodjbf St. Petersburg and th.c Czar as their Pope. ' -*. _vi infidel journal Les Debatssiii with much truth that the Catholic Church, in Poland, is now reduced to a position with the days of Nero.
