The Railway. — We regret to find that owing to tbe unsettled state of affairs in New Zealand, English capitalists have become shy of investing their money here, the consequence of which is that Mr. Morrison has, for the time being, met with a want of success in carrying out our railway sclieme. A letter has been received from him by the mail just arrived in which he says : — " The prominent manner in which, of late, the affairs of New Zealand have been brought before the English public, has essentially prejudiced all enterprise in connection with (he colony. The Colouial securities have been likewise depreciated in v*Ju '■ by reason of the unsettled state of native affairs in the Nort* ern Island ; (he public, refusing to distinguish that the Middle Island is exempt lrom such troubles, assume that the local disturbances in the North affect the whole country. It is therefore, in ray opinion undesirable, in the present state of matters, to press into notice the claims of (he Nelson and (tobden Railway j but you may rest assured'l will continue watchful, and be prepared to carry out the wishes of the Goverumeut whenever a suitable opportunity offers." We sincerely hope that no long time may elapse before this uneasy feeling of distrust wears off, and that the fresh inducements offered to the proposed Company by the concessions made to their wishes, advices of which had not arrived in Englaud when the last mail left, may produce a favorable effect, and that we may soon receive more satisfactory news on this sujbect.
