The Nelson Evening Mail. SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 18, 1869.

We are looking forward with much interest to Mr" Curtis' meeting oo MoDday Dext when we may expect to have a connected and succinct narrative of the chief events of the session from one who, hy his abilities and by the large amount of attention he has lias bestowed upon colonial politics, is entitled to take rank among the leading members of the. Assembly. Mr. Curtis has, in the session just terminated, taken a much more promioent part in the debates and general proceedings of the House than in former years, and upon the occasion of his resolution referring to the dismissal of Major Brown, was very nearly defeating the present Ministry. With regard to this latter question we are sure that Mr. Curtis' conduct will meet with the unanimous approval of the electors ; there is one point however, upon which we are anxious to hear what, he has to say; we refer to the vote of £3000 to Mr. Fitzherbert for the services rendered by him in England as Government agent. Possibly Mr. Curtis may be able to justify this vote, but at present it seems to us to have been an uncalled for expenditure of the public fuuds, as from returns laid upon the table it appears that in addition to that sum he received £2,112 as travelling allowance, and 1,400 as his ministerial salary.
