The Melbourne correspondent of the Alexandra Courier describes a method of j shearing sheep by steam which he lately i 7 saw in operiation, and which appears to j act upon the principle of a reaping ma- j chine. The instrument is said to be made i of brass, of about the size and shape of a i smaill trowel with a comb in front, which , acts as a guide, and also prevents the skin /-from being cut by the reciprocating blade. . It is added 1 that the apparatus will cut -more rapidly than common shears will do, .{and that it '-'obviates the risk of injuring .eitherithe animal or the fleece. : ; ?:Th_e 7medical pipers are writing against the modern fashion of high-heeled boots. rT'heysaytitcauses corns, cramp, lameness ;%t:^ 7 ■$&(*{ makes the jleg loseits
