RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

Before J. Sharp, Esq., R.M. This Day. W. M. Stanton v. Thomas Hodgson. — Claim for £26 15s. 6d. being amount due" on a dishonored acceptance. Judgment was given for plaintiff for amount claimed and costs, 255.

Publicans' Licenses. — A meeting of magistrates for the purpose of grautmg and transferring Publicans' licences is to be held at the Court-house to-morrow morning. Dr Cusack. — The friends of this gentleman will be sorry to hear that a letter has been received from Mrs Cusack stating that her husband died at East Maitlaud on 9th ult. A fortnight previous to his death Mrs Cusack lost her youngest child who died suddeuly.

Agricultural Statistics. —Iv the Government Gazette of the 11th inst. the returns of the agricultural census taken in the province of Marlborough are published. The following are the general totals : — Extent of land taken up, but not undercrop 2,188 acres; in wheat 2363 acres, estimated produce 46,211 bushels ; in oats 1,256 acres, estimated produce, 34,851 bushels ; in barley 1,453 acres, estimated produce 33,269 bushels ; in hay 1,086 acres, estimated produce 1,306 tons ; iv permanent artificial grass, includiug hay 13,378 acres ; in potatoes 256 acres, estimated produce 1,445 tous ; iv other crops 238 acres. Nelson Races. — A meeting of the Turf Club was held on Saturday afternoon when the following gentlemen were elected, and consented to act, as stewards: — Hon. Major Morse, A. J. Richmond, Esq., A. Greenfield, Esq., and R. Richardson, Esq. Considerable alterations were made ia the programme which was so arranged that the best of the racing should take place on the first day.
