The Nelson Evening Mail. MONDAY, MARCH 15, 1869. ACCIDENT AT THE WHARD.

Au accident occurred at the Wharf this morning between nine and fen to a Mr. Henoch sberg, a passenger by the steamer Phoebe. It appears that Mr. Henochsberg, who had a box of jewellery in his hand, was stepping on the wharf from the ship, when the landing-stage, the end of which had just been shifted in order to make way for the trucks to pass, slipped, and the gentleman in question, was precipitated into the water, closely followed by the stage. A life buoy, with a rope attached, was speedily thrown io his assistance, which he seized, and was thus rescued from his dangerous position, In hauling up the' gangway, it was discovered that the box of jewellery, which Mr. Henochsberg had with him at the time of the accident, was nicely balanced on one of the pins, a hook was soon procured, and the box saved from its precarious position, but it was found on opening it, that the goods, amongst which were several watch.es, were thoroughly soaked with salt water, and consequently a large amount of damage was done. We are informed that Mr Henochsberg, who is a loser of a large amount through the accident, intends to seek redress in a court of law.
