BATHING IN THE MAITAI.
To the Editor of the Nklson Evening Mail. Sir — I regret to be compelled to state that respectable females passing on the thoroughfare on the Maitai Run are subjected to constant and grievous annoyance from the number of adult males who, day alter day, congregate for the purpose of bathing in the river, near the willow r rees, and close to the road. I should be sorry to throw any obstacle in the way of the indulgence at this time of the ye ar of so cleanly a habit as that of bathing, , -but there are many other places on the Maitai, which, moreover, have the advantage of being nearer town, and quite as convenient for bathing purposes as ihat I have indicated, and which, being further removed from the road, are less likely to offend decency. I may add that there are several families living in the Maitai Valley, the letnale members of which, should they wish to repair to town, have no alternative for it but to subject themselves to the annojanee to which I have drawn attention. Trusting that this letter may have the desired effect, Yours, &c, J. Sharland. Stags-head Valley, January 1, 1868.
