THE NELSON, COBDEN, AND WESTPORT RAILWAY.
To the Editor of the Nelson Evening Mail. Sir — Understanding it is the intention of his Honor the Superintendent to apply . to the General Assembly now sitting for an extension of the powers of the Nelson, Cobden, and Westport Railway Bill, sp as to enable him to give to thes company the line of railway as well as the 10,000 acres per mile for. the making thereof; I beg leave, while there is yet time&jio call attention to the inadvisability of at^resent proceeding with the extension to Westport. That extension, of upwards of 40 milea, is over a very difficult, if not almost impracticable, country; and when made it will bring ver}'. little traffic on the line, and will probably cause an outlay per mile of more than double the average cost of the line from Nelson to Cobden. Under these circumstances, Ido think it would be advisable to get such an alteration in the Act as would allow the making of this part of the line to be permissive rather than compulsory. < Yours, &c, Dickey Sam.
