NELSON BOARD OF WORKS.
Friday, July 5. Present: Messrs. R. Burn, in the chair, Bentlejj Burns, Wright^ and Carter. The minutes of last meeting were read rind confirmed. The resignation of Mr. R. Aitken, as a member of the Board, was received and accepted. Letters were read from the Rev. Father Garin and Mr. S; Robertson, in reference to the proposed lowering of the footpath at the east end of Manuka-street, in reply to communications from the Secretary, and it was decided that the work should be continued at an early date: A memorial from £he inhabitants of Bronti-street; complaining" that the breal? 1 water erected by the Board after the flood of February, 1866, had been washed away, together with a large portion of the street, and expressing their apprehensions that unless steps be taken a further loss of property may ensue. In reference to this subject it was resolved that the Working Committee, together with the Secretary, should inspect the a locality alluded to, and report thereon. A letter was read from Mrs. Baily, the widow of a late Secretary, requesting that a quantity of Ransomes's Silicate, forwarded to her late husband, and stored in the premises of the Board, might be given up to her. The Secretary was instructed to inform her that her request was acceded to. A letter was read from F. Huddleston, Esq., Esq., requesting that some gravel might be laid on the footpath in Nilestreet East, which was ordered to be done. A letter was received from Mr; A. Hibble, relative to the lowering of the water-tables in Upper Bridge-street, complaining of damage alleged to be sustained by his property in consequence. The Board passed a resolution to the effect
that the work in question was being car^ riea out to titei'r satisfaction", and in great measure in recognition of a complaint made aV 'the last City Election by MK Hibblc, , . . Mr. D. Burns drew the attention bf the Board to the state of the footpath near Mr. Bisley's house, Waimea-street. The Secretary was instructed to see that some gravel be laid down on the place alluded to. A letter was read from Mi". Miles, expressing- his desire to be released from his contract for curbing Bridge-street, which was permitted by. the Board; Mr. Miles forfeiting his cash security"; The Secretary was likewise instructed to advertise for fresh tenders for the execution of this work, the tenders to be sent in by the 19th instant. The Secretary was instructed to prepare the Debentures for the payment for the construction bf the Bridge-stree" Sewer; and to call a special meeting of the Board for Tuesday, the 9th instant, at 11 o'clock, for the purpose of signing the" same; Th'e labor account having been passed; the Board then adjourned until Tuesday;
