On Sunday last, anniversary sermons in connexion with the Wesleyan Church Richmond, were preached by the Rev. J Davis, iu the morning, and in the evening by the Rev. R. S. Buun. On Tuesdaj evening, a large party of friends attendee ' a tea meeting, tea having been prepare< by the ladies of the congregation. A public meeting was afterwards held, o which Mr. H. Drew was chairman. I appeared from the financial statement tha the debt on the church had been reduce( to £55, and that on the parsonage t< about £112. The meeting was addressee by the Rev. R. S. Buun, Messrs. Fisher Rose, and Crisp, who dwelt on tbe satis factory state of the society's affairs, ant anticipated still greater prosperity ii futui-e from the united efforts ofthe mem bers and friends. The Canterbury Provincial Counci have passed resolutions to the effect tha railway or tramway communication be tween the East aud West Coasts of th< province is urgently required. They re commend the Superintendent to take sue! steps, by offering a guaranteed moderatt rate of interest for a term of years on re quisite outlay, and obtain such data as ma*, induce contractors or others to undertak< the construction of the line of railway o; tramway between the East and Wes Coasts, and will indemnify his Honor ii any expenditure not exceeding £5,000 oi measures necessary to carry it cut. In the Resident Magistrate's Cour yesterday, judgment was given agains the following persons, whom Inspecto: Shallcrass had summoned for neglecting to pay the Education Rate: —Alfrec Carter, John Ladd, W. Boyle, Rober M'Donald, Gr. Dickens, Robert J. Durrant and W. Brazen. More than 70 persons hac been summoned, but all the cases wen settled out of court, except those men* tioned above.
