CRICKET MATCH AT WAKEFIELD.

We have much pleasure in presenting our readers with the particulars of this closely contested match, though we must confess we would have been extremely pleased to have seen a different result in favor of the plucky Albion eleven, who challenged the crack club of the province, though we prophesy a different result when the Wakefield eleven come to Nelson to play the return match. Though out of the Albion eleven, at least half a dozen are mere youths, they greatly astonished the old Nelson cricketers, who from the result of last year's matches thought Nelson would be disgracefully beaten in yesterday's match. Throughout the match the Albion kept up tbeir pluck, which Ave hardly expected euch a youthful eleven would do, when afc the end of the first innings their score was 40 short of the older and more experienced players. The bowling of the Albion Club was first-class, about a dozen maiden overs beiug made in each iuntngs, which is saying a good deal, as their opponents have and always had a great reputation for their fiue batting, though' in the score we perceive a partiality for ducks eggs in their 2nd innings. The batting on the Wakefield side was very much steadier, and consequently better than the Albion side, but we see that the highest score made by one player was ou the Albion side, the fine score of 22 being made. The fielding was very good on both sides, bui still we perceive a weakness in the Nelson longstopping, though not so apparent by far as last year. The weather throughout was everything that could possibly be desired, and the interest that was taken in the match was evinced by the large number of people present. After the game the players and their friends adjourned to the Wakefield Arms, to partake of a diuner provided by Host Andrews, which was given in his usual sumptuous style. We have been requested by the members of the Albion Eleven to express their thanks to Mr. Moonlight of the White Hart Hotel, for the accommodating manuer in which the breakfast was prepared and ready for them afc the early hour of 6-40 a.m. — Communicated.
