NELSON BOARD OF WORKS.

October 26. Present, Messrs. Burns, Rout, Carter, Aitken> and "Wright; Mr R. Burn in the chair. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. Mr Aitken reported that the inhabitants objected to pay towards the foot bridge over the Maitai, lit Nile-stree East, the rates being quite sufficient. It was resolved that Messrs Aitken, Rout, and the Chairman be a deputation to wait upon the Superintendent, to urge the desirability of erecting a bridge over the Maitai, at Nile-street East ; and that funds necessary for such work, be taken from the amounts voted by the Provincial Council, during the last session, for the maintenance and tarring of bridges. The Public Works Committee recommended that the work included in the application made by Messrs. Luckie and others, for clenriug out ditches in Wai-rnea-street, be done; and that a similar request from Mrs. Snow and others, in the same street, be granted. It was resolved that the warrant for the assessment be issued as follows: — " To Mr. Thomas Younger, Secretary and Clerk to the Board of Works, Nelson. " Board of Works Office, Nelson, 26th October, 1566. " By this warrant you are hereby appointed as Assessor to the Board, and you are authorised to make a full and fair assessment of all the rateable property situated within the town of Nelson, and such assessment is to be completed and returned within 30 days from the date, as by law provided. "As witness our hands this twenty-sixth day of October, 1866, aforesaid." (Signed by the Chairman and Members of the Board). Permission was granted to Mr Potter to fill up footpath, corner of Vanguard and Gloucester streets, on condition of his paying half the expense. The Secretary was instructed to accept the moiety offered by Messrs Martin and Gordon, relative to cutting a road near N. Esk-street. It was resolved to consider Mr Akersten's application for balance of account due upon contract for bridge at junction of Nile and Tasman streets, as soon as the bridge shall be tested according to conditions mentioned in specification, under inspection Of Public Works Committee and Surveyor. The Secretary was instructed to communicate with Mr. Osman relative to his offer to do certain work in Vanguard and Totara-streets. A letter was read from Messrs. Hodgson, Graham, and others, relative to the inroad made on their property, in Brook-street ; and a report was handed in by the surveyor, recommending that means be taken to prevent the damage to the bridge through floods. Accounts were passed as follows: — Labor, £33 13s; Kearsc, £6 155. ; Dunlop, £20; Malcolm, £73; M'Murray, £1 10s. The Board adjourned till Thursday, Nov. Bth, at 3 p.ra.
