' " There is at present to be seen, in a barrel, ia a corner of the shop of Mr. Best, bootmaker, Smythesdale, a cat and two young opossums liviug in a state of harmony which would be a pattern for any domestic circle. The cat had offspring which were taken away from her, aud in the latter end of last week their place was supplied by the opossums, which are about the size of kittens. The little things nestle cosily in the bosom of their foster-mother, and the cat fondles them ' as tenderly as if they were her own. When the opossums are removed they scramble back to th*e cat, and it is amusing to observe how they take hold of her with their tails and settle themselves in comfortable . positions, while Grimalkin purrs and manifests various other symptoms of delight, apparently enjoying the function of wet-nurse to her little iy-rest-born proteges.— B'allaraf Star. .
